What does what in your computer? Computer parts Explained

07:48
A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES: 1: At the end I said cooling is not required. I went off script here, I meant to say "additional cooling". Any fans your CPU or case comes with are most certainly required. 2: A GPU is technically a component within the Graphics card (CPU is to Computer as GPU is to Graphics card) but if you're thinking about building a computer the terms are used interchangably. Every graphics card comes with a GPU inside of it and they are often referred to as GPU because that is the defining characteristic of a graphics card. 3: Solid State Drives are the same thing as hard drives, just with less space and faster speed due to the lack of spinning disks. 4: A GPU is technically not an *essential* part of a computer. You can boot without it. But to do almost anything desktop computers are good for, you will need a grahpics card. A Video Game That Teaches You How To Code

03:44
"Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think,” Steve Jobs said in 1995. But for a beginner, learning to code can be intimidating. Enter CodeSpells. UC San Diego's Sarah Guthals has developed this video game to teach people how to code. The story line is simple: you’re a wizard that uses spells (i.e. code) to navigate through the world, fight off foes, and solve problems. While experienced coders can delve deep into the programming to create some truly devastating spells, newbies can easily experiment with the simple drag-and-drop coding interface. The research highlighted in this video has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation I-Corps grant. http://codespells.org — To get updates and information about CodeSpells http://learntomod.com — A similar software developed by us to teach coding through Minecraft http://thoughtstem.com — Getting CS education into your classroom/school FEATURING: Sarah Guthals, alum of the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego --- Why Science Needs Art: https://youtu.be/-junNCPl3Zs Subscribe! http://bit.ly/1fUWHyY Fig. 1 explores new ideas and research out of the University of California — ranging from science, technology, art and humanities. PC Build 2017 - Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning

05:03
This is my current build for AI, ML, and DL as well as some quant finance. CPU is not the center point as it seems to be with many systems. GPU is the King. With that being said, I feel a 2018 build coming on... Volta GPU I9 (18 core) or Threadripper (16 core) CPU Want to play and get some models running on GPU and have their output become the input for other models running on the CPU. Fun times ahead.

Computer-Based Education

01:36
In 1961, Donald L. Bitzer, co-inventor of the plasma display panel, and Chalmers W. Sherwin introduced Plato, the first computer based education system, the first time-shared education system, and the home of the first on-line community. By the early 1970s, Plato included early forms of electronic mail, newsgroups, and computer games and provided hardware and software innovations for the computer industry. By the late 1980s, Plato offered instruction on approximately 100 subjects to students around the world.

PLATO@50: PLATO Computer Learning System 50th Anniversary

01:27:06
[Recorded: June 2, 2010] Science fiction writer William Gibson once famously said, "The future is already here. It's just not evenly distributed." Such was the case in the early 1970s, when the fourth generation of the PLATO system, evolving since 1960 at the University of Illinois, made its debut. Viewed from today, it is hard to believe that the PLATO IV system could have existed when it did: Terminals with touch-sensitive, gas-plasma flat-panel displays, random-access audio, built-in color microfiche projectors and a powerful authoring language for developing nearly any kind of program imaginable. PLATO was a centralized, mainframe-based system, with very sophisticated terminals connected to it. Its mission was to deliver education electronically at low cost. But it became much, much more than that. It quickly became home to a diverse online community that represented a microcosm of today's online world. Much of what we take for granted in today's hyper-active, always-on world of social media, blogs, and addictive computer games could be applied to what life was like on the PLATO system beginning in the mid-1970s. PLATO, an acronym standing for "Programmed Logic for Automated Teaching Operations," started as a project of the Coordinated Sciences Laboratory (CSL) at the University of Illinois in 1960. The original goal was to build on the mechanical "teaching machine" work of B.F. Skinner and instead see if it was possible to build a computer that could teach. In time they discovered not only was the answer yes, but computers could be extremely effective, and economically viable, at teaching large segments of the population. In the 1970s, Control Data Corporation entered into a series of agreements with the University of Illinois to commercialize the PLATO system and bring it to the marketplace. The result was a great expansion of PLATO throughout the U.S. and the world, with systems installed in Canada, France, Belgium, Israel, Sweden, Australia, South Africa, United Kingdom, and elsewhere. Fifty years on, PLATO has left its imprint across a wide range of computing activities, from e-learning to social media, from online multiplayer games to major hardware and software innovations. In this lecture, Brian Dear, founder of the PLATO History Foundation presents an overview of PLATO's history. Then Dr. Donald Bitzer, creator of PLATO and co-inventor of the flat-panel gas plasma display, and Microsoft's Ray Ozzie (who got his start on PLATO at the University of Illinois) discuss the history and impact of PLATO with John Markoff of the New York Times. Equal parts game and educational tool, PC Building Simulator from The Irregular Corporation offers a realistic, simulated environment where you can learn how to build a PC "without electrocuting yourself" (because apparently that's a big risk in the real?). Using (simulated) brand-name components, you can make your dream computer a (virtual) reality, and even diagnose and fix PCs in your own virtual repair shop. (No, sadly the simulated PC cannot out-perform the one you're running the game on. Yes, we're bummed about that too.) Just one question remains: When does it come to consoles? Automated Deep Reinforcement Learning Environment for Hardware of a Modular Legged Robot

01:58
In this paper, we present an automated learning environment for developing control policies directly on the hardware of a modular legged robot. This environment facilitates the reinforcement learning process by computing the rewards using a vision-based tracking system and relocating the robot to the initial position using a resetting mechanism. We employ two state-of-the-art deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms, Trust Region Policy Optimization (TRPO) and Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG), to train neural network policies for simple rowing and crawling motions. Using the developed environment, we demonstrate both learning algorithms can effectively learn policies for simple locomotion skills on highly stochastic hardware and environments. We further expedite learning by transferring policies learned on a single legged configuration to multi-legged ones. Amiga Hardware Programming in C Part 1 - Introduction

07:09
This is the first episode in an introductory series about Amiga hardware programming using the C programming language. I decided to create this series because I want to learn hardware programming myself and capture my learning effort in videos to share with other interested developers. You might want to check out the hardware programming series that Photon of Scoopex created for assembly language and who is a true expert of the Amiga Hardware. Example source code available at: https://github.com/weiju/amiga_hardware_in_c Amiga technical documentation available online at http://amigadev.elowar.com There is also the Amiga Developer CD, which can be purchased from Amiga retailers. I am not listing any to avoid forgetting one, which wouldn't be fair since they all benefit the community by selling Amiga related items. Software Used: LibreOffice (presentation) Kazam (screen recording) OpenShot (video editing) Audacity (audio editing) FS-UAE (Amiga emulator) Emacs (script editing/coding) Linux Mint (operating system) VBCC (C cross development) Music Credits: "Mt Fox Shop" - BoxCat Games "Rolling" - BoxCat Games "Epic Song" - BoxCat Games Under Creative Commons Attribution License

How Many Watts Does My Computer Power Supply Need?

22:25
How Many Watts Does My Computer Power Supply Need? ►►►SUBSCRIBE for more: https://www.youtube.com/user/Britec09?sub_confirmation=1 So the age old question of how much watts does a gaming PC really need? Well we will be taking a look at a older Dell Optiplex 7010 DT, but they make other versions like SFF USFF and MT. Many people want to buy SFF small form factor computers because they are cheap. You can pick them up for as little as $100 with a i5 or i7 processor in them and 16 GB of ram. You will need to upgrade the (GPU) graphics card so you can play games, but then lies the problem of the profile of the case and small power supply output. Nvidia GTX 1050ti is the go to card for most people using these small form factor cases. The (PSU) power supply is generally around 240w, 250w to 270 watts. Watch the full video to see what best for you. the information I give is some general, basic information which can be used along with your own research to find the best solution for Choosing the Right PC Power Supply (PSU). So Which Power Supply Should you Buy? depends of the computer parts. some PC hardware require a lot more power and need bigger PSU. Don't just look at Watts, you need to also look at amps on the 12v rail and how many 12v rails there are. Try and buy a branded PSU with at least 80 Plus Bronze certification with a little more buffer in power than you need. So if you need 500w PSU maybe treat yourself to a 650w or 700w, why? So you are not running your PC at 90% to 100% capacity all the time and gives you a bit of room for upgrades. The PC will only draw the power it needs to run efficiently. So never cheap out on your power supply. Warning: Never run power supply over its maximum recommendations, always stick to the recommend recommendations for that computer and power supply. This video is meant for educational purposes only, I Britec will not be held responsible for an damage to your computers hardware. Here are some useful sites to help you choose the right (PSU) power supply and understand how the work. Conclusion: PC Hardware Has Become Stagnant and BORING! It's Time to Move On.

29:23
After recently doing videos on CPUs, GPUs, Monitors, and Consoles the conclusion I've come to is that today's latest consumer hardware is flat out not interesting. The market goes nuts over every new release, but the performance increases generation over generation had diminished to almost margin of error. 8 FAILED Video Game Consoles That Never Made it to America

13:28
DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THESE 8 RARE INTERNATIONAL CONSOLES? While North America has plenty of great game exclusives, Japan is the true capital of video games and has had many consoles released over the years. This is TheGamer's list of 8 Game consoles that never made it to America. What console do you wish you could try out? Let us know in the comments section below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBSCRIBE NOW to The Gamer! Click here: https://goo.gl/9cpWgf Have the next amazing video idea? Submit it to us here: https://goo.gl/forms/hn6vV1Ic2PbfGnhx2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ America often gets a lot of the big game console releases, but through the years, there have been multiple times where a console was released exclusively in another country and never made it stateside. A majority of these consoles weren’t very popular while others were just precursors to some of our favorite consoles of all-time. One of Nintendo’s first ever home consoles was released in Japan and known as the Nintendo Color TV-Game 6. It features one game with multiple variations of the game and was essentially a version of Pong. Casio released a console in Japan catered exclusively to girls. The design was female oriented along with the games and special features. The Bandai Playdia was a home console filled with educational games and released exclusively to Japan. The Amstrad GX4000 was Britain’s answer to the console wars, but it failed miserably due to cheaper computer games at the time. The FM Towns Marty was able to play Cd-Rom games, but lacked the graphics capabilities that made the Playstation a huge hit. The NEC PC-FX has a great look and controller but failed to capitalize on the games and never took off like it should have. Sega’s first console was the SG-1000 and has many differences from the Sega Master System and Sega Genesis we grew to know and love. The Game Boy faced international competition in the form of the Bandai Wonderswan, but the portable console came out just a little too late to make a big impact. Watch to see all 8 consoles that never made it to America! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Script by: Alan Donahue Voice Over by: Michael Neeb Edited by: Kyle Mirzaian Our Social Media: https://twitter.com/thegamer_site https://www.facebook.com/thegamercom/ Our Website http://thegamer.com
