16 Games With Incredible Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence can make or break a video game. That is no exaggeration. Good AI can elevate average game to an excellent one, while at the same time, bad AI can turn a great concept into a poorly executed mess. Immersion, challenge, thrill, enjoyment, atmosphere- there are so many things that are dependent on a game’s AI. Which is why when we say that AI is perhaps one of the most important aspects of any modern video game, you know we’re not being hyperbolic. Just like anything else in the video games industry though, there are some developers and video games that handle artificial intelligence much better than others. Here, in this list, we’ve compiled what we feel are the sixteen games with the best AI we’ve ever seen. As always, if in any way you disagree with our selections, let us know why that is via your comments below. Artificial intelligence, video games and the mysteries of the mind | Raia Hadsell | TEDxExeterSalon
Artificial intelligence could be the powerful tool we need to solve some of the biggest problems facing our world, argues Raia Hadsell. In this talk, she offers an insight into how she and her colleagues are developing robots with the capacity to learn. Their superhuman ability to play video games is just the start. Raia is a senior research scientist on the Deep Learning team at DeepMind, with a particular focus on solving robotics and navigation using deep neural networks. --- TEDxExeterSalon: From driverless cars to diagnosis of medical imaging, artificial intelligence is being heralded as the next industrial revolution. But how does AI relate to us in all our glorious complex humanity? Our first TEDxExeterSalon explored the ways in which we’ll interact with algorithmic intelligence in the near future. TEDxExeter: Now in our 7th year, TEDxExeter is Exeter’s Ideas Festival with global reach, licensed by TED and organised by volunteers who are passionate about spreading great ideas in our community. More information: http://www.tedxexeter.com Production: http://www.youtube.com/familygamertv Filming: http://firstsightmedia.co.uk/ Raia Hadsell is a research scientist on the Deep Learning team at DeepMind. She moved to London to join DeepMind in early 2014, feeling that her fundamental research interests in robotics, neural networks, and real world learning systems were well-aligned with the agenda of Demis, Shane, Koray, and other members of the original team. Raia’s research at DeepMind focuses on a number of fundamental challenges in AGI, including continual and transfer learning, deep reinforcement learning, and neural models of navigation. Raia came to AI research obliquely. After an undergraduate degree in religion and philosophy from Reed College, she veered off-course (on-course?) and became a computer scientist. Raia’s PhD with Yann LeCun, at NYU, focused on machine learning using Siamese neural nets (often called a ‘triplet loss’ today) and on deep learning for mobile robots in the wild. Her thesis, ‘Learning Long-range vision for offroad robots’, was awarded the Outstanding Dissertation award in 2009. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

8 Most Intelligent NPCs in Games That Are Like Real People
Non Playable Characters, also known as NPCs, are a core element that make many gameplay scenarios work and feel natural. The AI system of a video game has to be good enough to render credible scenarios populated with viable, lifelike characters that can act in an organic way as if they were living beings and not just lines of code. And because the most memorable characters are the ones with spunk, we made a list with 8 games that have the most unique and intelligent NPCs. http://www.fraghero.com http://www.facebook.com/fraghero

Artificial Intelligence plays Call Of Duty (with commentary)
here is the original video published 3 years ago without the commentary: https://youtu.be/_dJfpvM1bd8 The most important topic regarding modern Artificial intelligence is the robot's ability to do recursive tasks. Opening a door or baking a cake or doing any human task requires recursive tasks. For example, when you open a door there are many recursive sub-tasks you must do, such as having the key, or turning the door knob. My AI program uses movie sequences called pathways to store life experiences. Therefore, recursive tasks are stored as linear possibilities. This way, I don't have to pre-define rules or goals or procedures into the robot's brain. When I filed my patents and books starting from 2006, my goal was to design a robot with human level AI. The benchmark i used to test the robot's cognitive skills and abilities is to let it play video games. If my robot can play every video game in the world, then it has achieved intelligence at a human-level. In my first patent filed in 2006 (priority), I used the popular video game, Zelda to demonstrate my robots intelligence. I chose this game because it is very complex and requires at least a 6th grade level intelligence to beat. If the robot can play Zelda it can essentially play any video game. The important thing is that I tried to demonstrate how my robot does recursive tasks. While the robot is managing multiple tasks, it's also doing other things like: 1. navigate in an unknown environment 2. attack enemies 3. generate common sense knowledge. 4. solve problems. 5. do induction and deduction reasoning. 6. do multiple recursive tasks. 7. read and understand natural language. 8. identify objects and generate logical facts. etc. The A.I. is playing this call of duty game for the first time and is using a general pathway to play the game. Since this is the first time, the robot doesn't understand the rules, goals, or procedures of the game. He uses common sense knowledge and logical reasoning to discover the objectives and rules of the game. In other words, the robot is using logical and reasoning to discover recursive tasks. This video was made over 3 years ago and this is the first time I'm trying to explain how and why the robot makes decisions in the game. And the content in this video is based on 8 patents and 5 books filed from 2006-2007. the data structure to Human-Level AI: https://youtu.be/KEyPzMi8wts website: http://www.humanlevelartificialintelligence.com tags: call of duty, ai plays call of duty, human level artificial intelligence, ai, artificial intelligence, artificial general intelligence, true ai, strong ai, human level ai, cognitive science, ai plays video game, robot plays video game, agi, digital human brain, human intelligence, human brain, human mind, human thought, ai plays role playing games, ai play rpg.

Google DeepMind pits Artificial Intelligence against Artificial Intelligence into 2 games to see if they fight or cooperate Game 1: Gathering gameplay Two A.I. players are collecting apples(green) They may zap each other with a laser beam to temporarily remove another from the game Conclusion: when apples were in plentiful supply - They(Players) didn’t zap each other But, when stocks dwindled - the amount of zapping increased And the cleverer AI - zaps more aggressively Game 2: Wolfpack gameplay (Red) wolves chase the blue dot while avoiding (grey) obstacles.G Conclusion The cleverer the AI player, the more likely it was to cooperate with other players. Because learning to work with the other player to track and herd the prey requires more computational power

Google DeepMind's Deep Q-learning playing Atari Breakout
Google DeepMind created an artificial intelligence program using deep reinforcement learning that plays Atari games and improves itself to a superhuman level. It is capable of playing many Atari games and uses a combination of deep artificial neural networks and reinforcement learning. After presenting their initial results with the algorithm, Google almost immediately acquired the company for several hundred million dollars, hence the name Google DeepMind. Artificial Intelligence in Google's Dinosaur (English Sub)
Link for the code: https://github.com/ivanseidel/IAMDinosaur This is a project made for my university, using a Neural Network and Genetic Algorithm to teach Google's dinosaur from Chrome to jump cactus without dying so easily. All the implementation was using Node.js, and the game was not modified to allow interaction with the game, instead, I used pixel readings and virtual key presses from Node.js. Presentation: I normally use Apple's Keynote to make presentations and record it livelly with my screen. Music: It's my own composition and improvisation. The Quest for AI Game Designers | AI and Games
Game design is an intricate combination of common sense with video game aesthetics to create something fun and interesting for players. It is an entirely subjective process that varies depending on the type of game we are making and the experience the designer hopes to invoke. While we know good design when we see it, it often takes time for these to take shape in the final version of a game. So how do you translate this intrinsically creative process to a piece of artificially intelligent software? Can an AI be creative? Can it build something that resonates with humans? How do we quantify that? How can an AI know what might be 'cool' or 'interesting'? We take a look at a body of work in game development and research that is moving towards building the first generation of AI game designers: the games that use intelligent design systems as part of gameplay, tools that use AI to help human designers and AI systems that make entire games by themselves! -- Read the accompanying blog post on AI and Games: http://aiandgames.com/not-bad-for-a-human/ Follow AI and Games on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/AIandGames Like AI and Games on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AIandGames Support AI and Games on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/AI_and_Games Games Shown in this Video: Super Mario Maker (2015) Spelunky HD (2012) Borderlands 2 (2012) No Man's Sky (2016) Galactic Arms Race (2010) Mario Maker Level id's: #1 C517-0000-000F-9128 #2 9525-0000-003B-F371 Special thanks to the following researchers whose work is discussed in this video (in order I remembered to add you). AI Evolved - artificial intelligence for games
AI-Evolved is my first working version of a new system to automatically create artificial intelligence. It uses an evolutionary algorithm to evolve a neural networks that can control any kind of character. I will use this technology in my game Testank to create opponents that behave differently in every game. While the players play the game they train the AI and thus keep producing newer, stronger AI! A ranking system will rank players and AI to make sure everyone gets an interesting opponent.

What is the Minimax Algorithm? - Artificial Intelligence
The minimax algorithm is one of the oldest artificial intelligence algorithms ever. It uses a simple zero sum rule to find which player will win from a current position. This is arguably the most powerful and basic tool for building game playing artificial intelligence. It captures the intentions of two player games fighting against one another. Minimax is the foundation for algorithms like alpha-beta pruning and iterative deepening. Engines like deep blue use optimized versions of minimax to play chess, while other computer programs have also been successful at playing games with minimax. Outrageous Artificial Intelligence: (Game 1) DeepMind’s AlphaZero crushes Stockfish Chess WC
1 minute per move, 100 game match, match score: 28 wins, 72 draws, AI Landmark game, Stockfish crushed, Bishop pair worth more than knight and 4 pawns Research paper: "Mastering Chess and Shogi by Self-Play with a General Reinforcement Learning Algorithm" : David Silver,1∗ Thomas Hubert,1∗ Julian Schrittwieser,1∗ Ioannis Antonoglou,1 Matthew Lai,1 Arthur Guez,1 Marc Lanctot,1 Laurent Sifre,1 Dharshan Kumaran,1 Thore Graepel,1 Timothy Lillicrap,1 Karen Simonyan,1 Demis Hassabis1 https://arxiv.org/pdf/1712.01815.pdf The game of chess is the most widely-studied domain in the history of artificial intelligence. The strongest programs are based on a combination of sophisticated search techniques, domain-specific adaptations, and handcrafted evaluation functions that have been refined by human experts over several decades. In contrast, the AlphaGo Zero program recently achieved superhuman performance in the game of Go, by tabula rasa reinforcement learning from games of self-play. In this paper, we generalise this approach into a single AlphaZero algorithm that can achieve, tabula rasa, superhuman performance in many challenging domains. Starting from random play, and given no domain knowledge except the game rules, AlphaZero achieved within 24 hours a superhuman level of play in the games of chess and shogi (Japanese chess) as well as Go, and convincingly defeated a world-champion program in each case .... Read more at: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1712.01815.pdf What is reinforcement learning? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinforcement_learning "Reinforcement learning (RL) is an area of machine learning inspired by behaviourist psychology, concerned with how software agents ought to take actions in an environment so as to maximize some notion of cumulative reward. The problem, due to its generality, is studied in many other disciplines, such as game theory, control theory, operations research, information theory, simulation-based optimization, multi-agent systems, swarm intelligence, statistics and genetic algorithms. In the operations research and control literature, the field where reinforcement learning methods are studied is called approximate dynamic programming. The problem has been studied in the theory of optimal control, though most studies are concerned with the existence of optimal solutions and their characterization, and not with the learning or approximation aspects. In economics and game theory, reinforcement learning may be used to explain how equilibrium may arise under bounded rationality. In machine learning, the environment is typically formulated as a Markov decision process (MDP), as many reinforcement learning algorithms for this context utilize dynamic programming techniques.[1] The main difference between the classical techniques and reinforcement learning algorithms is that the latter do not need knowledge about the MDP and they target large MDPs where exact methods become infeasible. Reinforcement learning differs from standard supervised learning in that correct input/output pairs are never presented, nor sub-optimal actions explicitly corrected. Instead the focus is on on-line performance, which involves finding a balance between exploration (of uncharted territory) and exploitation (of current knowledge).[2] The exploration vs. exploitation trade-off in reinforcement learning has been most thoroughly studied through the multi-armed bandit problem and in finite MDPs." What is this company called Deepmind ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeepMind DeepMind Technologies Limited is a British artificial intelligence company founded in September 2010. Acquired by Google in 2014, the company has created a neural network that learns how to play video games in a fashion similar to that of humans,[4] as well as a Neural Turing machine,[5] or a neural network that may be able to access an external memory like a conventional Turing machine, resulting in a computer that mimics the short-term memory of the human brain.[6][7] The company made headlines in 2016 in nature after its AlphaGo program beat a human professional Go player for the first time in October 2015.[8] and again when AlphaGo beat Lee Sedol the world champion in a five-game tournament, which was the subject of a documentary film. ♚Play at: http://www.chessworld.net/chessclubs/asplogin.asp?from=1053 ►Kingscrusher chess resources: http://www.chessworld.net/chessclubs/learn_coaching_chessable.asp ►Kingscrusher's "Crushing the King" video course with GM Igor Smirnov: http://chess-teacher.com/affiliates/idevaffiliate.php?id=1933&url=2396 ►FREE online turn-style chess at http://www.chessworld.net/chessclubs/asplogin.asp?from=1053 http://goo.gl/7HJcDq ►Kingscrusher resources: http://www.chessworld.net/chessclubs/learn_coaching_chessable.asp ►Playlists: http://goo.gl/FxpqEH ►Follow me at Google+ : http://www.google.com/+kingscrusher ►Play and follow broadcasts at Chess24: https://chess24.com/premium?ref=kingscrusher #KCChess

Google's self-learning AI AlphaZero masters chess in 4 hours
Google's AI AlphaZero has shocked the chess world. Leaning on its deep neural networks, and general reinforcement learning algorithm, DeepMind's AI Alpha Zero learned to play chess well beyond the skill level of master, besting the 2016 top chess engine Stockfish 8 in a 100-game match. Alpha Zero had 28 wins, 72 draws, and 0 losses. Impressive right? And it took just 4 hours of self-play to reach such a proficiency. What the chess world has witnessed from this historic event is, simply put, mind-blowing!
