I kept desperately hoping kichijiro would do some type of heroic act to redeem himself.

This isn't just about Christianity or any particular religion. It's about all the religions in the world and the followers. I also think the movie was so underrated.

When the Christian Murica bombed Japan, they bombed their faith in Christianity so Japan outlawed it.

I found the movie quite uplifting. Two completely insane man run into a country where they spread their insanity onto the weekest people so they can over time take the country under their control, destroying the japanese culture. Their rulers are less arrogant though and study the foreign language and religion which gives them the ability to completely expose the insanity of the catholic priests. They watch their own converts slowly die in pain while claiming to be the moral authority. They need to step their food a little forward to save those lifes but are mentally so twisted that they can't bring themselves to do it. i don't like to see those people suffer but i am glad Japan crippled the religion from spreading too much. otherwise there might be not much japanese culture left and the country be in a state like Rwanda or other African countries were christianity wreaked havoc.

Scorsese is the 1st tip-off that this ain't a film I can get behind. He's sold his soul for 30 pieces of filthy lucre lonnnnnnnng ago. & liam neeson is proAbort... **barf**

Great movie, they went there to conquer japan with religion and only brought suffering which is quite ironic as the christianity was supposed to help people.

How did this critically acclaimed movie flop in the box office? People don't like religious movies? I haven't watched it but I would like the opinion of someone who did. Is it worth watching?
Sadat Anwar (1 year ago)
As a Muslim, I thoroughly enjoyed this brilliant film; it was emotional, heart-wrenching, horrific, beautiful, and tragic. Although the story is told through a Catholic lens, I think it is applicable more universally to religious faith in general. The film can be interpreted as a metaphor for the struggle of traditional religious faith in a highly hostile, secular modern world. Far from any longer being able to stake a public claim, traditional religions must struggle against incredible odds to even continue to survive in the private sphere. Hats off to Mr. Scorsese!
People love drugs, sex and rock and roll... people don't love religion. The Revenant got away with ti. But this, idk man.

This is wicked, not based on the word of the Most High, religion shouldnt even exist, it is the creation of Satan, it teaches only nonsense, lawlessness. This is what Yahusha HaMashiach forewarned us about - tradition of men, man-made doctrines, packed with lies. "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 5:20

I saw Silence last Monday and I was blown away by it. One of the masterpieces of Scorsese in story-telling, cinematography and movie experiences. When the end credits rolled the audience was (including me) flabbergasted and indeed in total silence. The religious theme is of course important but is rooted in a social and political power culture where one is looking for an answer. This is about christianity, but can readily be replaced by another religion of conviction.

Every morning when I wake up, I brush my teeth, eat a donut, and then put my cock inside of Jesus ass. He loves it, he is my slave and lives in my basement. I feed him with wine, bread and apples. I just let him talk about what he can do and what he did, congratulate him for that, and he is happy after that.

Armaan Chowdhury (1 year ago)
drazulao yh I'm annoyed as well but I'm not surprised considering most people nowadays want to be in a fantasy and also the secular and material world we live in now, spiritualism and faith isn't appreciated as much
drazulao (1 year ago)
This movie is a masterpiece and is in my top 5 too. Martin Scorsese is an absolute legend and can do no wrong. I'm shocked with the Oscar snub.

Armaan Chowdhury I'm not sure I'll ever love a person as much as I love this movie. It taught me that any kind of faith keeps you alive- even when it's killing you.. beautiful

Adam driver dies by drowning. Well, being drowned. Liam neason denounces Catholicism and lives along with Andrew Garfield. But only after A LOT of torture. And not just to them. But worse in my opinion the people who were the peasants. Who dies and were tortured. Truly an amazing film. And they come to realize that just because they denounce our lord in public mainly to save lives of MANY people. It doesn't mean youve stopped loving and stopped believing. Beautiful.

I like the history of the Edo period and I think this is a story worth telling. However I'm worried this will be a typical low quality Christian movie designed to sucker religious people to come see this movie. And since this movie takes place in Japan and depicts the Japanese government as the antagonist, its going to be called racist even though it has nothing to do with race.

How about a movie about how EVIL WHITE Christians murdered HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of INNOCENT WOMEN and CHILDREN in Hiroshima and Nagasaki? People are sick and tired of Racist White People trying to make their paper cuts seem like genocides and other people's genocides seem like paper cuts.
Guïem Haielle (1 year ago)
wow another realistic that shows the persecution of Christians. *Correction* unrealistic. this movie it trying to show that the whole entire world is against all Christians which absolutely false infact it's the other way around. I dare you any for to try and prove me wrong but first give an actual real example currently or pasted, where Christians are persecuted and not the persecuters

This looks very good but could somebody tell me who were the older men that come in and are sitting there with the fans? Are they some sort of judges or police? Hopefully people won't judge it by the cover for being a Catholic movie.
Kevin Kiker (1 year ago)
TooSavage magistrates of the Shogun or Daimyo of the region, or federal or state judges if you want an analogy you would be familiar with.

I did find the first hour very boring, BUT great second half, and one of those movies that gets into your mind and improves upon reflection. after I first saw it I thought it was a disappointing 5/10, but a few days later and I find myself thinking about it along and want to see it again now, and would say it is at least a very good 8/10
