Daemon at 9:03..coming up with a new idea! Scoop!

If Justin had asked about a more generic rhythm meter like Brian had advised, they would have guessed Parapa the Rappa and lost. Justin's Parapa meter question actually narrowed it down to that specific game in the franchise.
Canada-Eh99 (1 year ago)
Brian, please pull your sleeves down, you look like Corey Feldman in Goonies.
Goldeneye the movie is great, one of the best Bond movies imo. Also Everything or Nothing was a great game for people who never played it.
I hope Capcom makes a new Devil May Cry soon
Dark Mask (1 year ago)
Poor Resident Evil 6... Bad RE game, sure, but it's still a fun action shooter.
Brado Hendrix (1 year ago)
Goldeneye is a fantastic Bond Movie, Great Soundtrack, Awesome Game. Casino Royal is a great Bond movie & soundtrack too.

Braaap braaap is the only one half decent at 20Q and NO if you can see your hands is not a smart question Justin 😘 haha great show as always guys! 😊✌🏽️

It makes sense to release multiplayer enabled games on Tuesday and here is why. You basically have 4 days to apply any hotfixes to the game and get everything ready for a smooth weekend, when your player base will be most active. You can also use that Monday as a final test day to get everything ready. If you lunch on a Friday and your game has some issues there is going to be a lot more disappointed fans out there. Having said that I am impressed by the last batch of multiplayers we got and how smooth all their launches went.
Miguel Santana (1 year ago)
Gotcha, that's interesting to know. Thx for the great show and for the clarification on that.
Game Scoop! (1 year ago)
That's a good point, but the Tuesday launch day was set long before the existence of online multiplayer games.
THX1968 (1 year ago)
Good, relaxed show with lots of neat info. Claiborne was spot on with tales of TecToy.

Thanks for the political reset Daemon! Games are awesome and you guys are great at giving us something else to talk about for at least an hour.

The Parappa games are 3D. If a game is rendered in 3D, even if it's going for a cutout look or whatever, then it's a 3D game—because it's rendered in 3D and has a 3D camera/view of the action onscreen (with proper z-depth on the objects and stuff). The only time a 3D game is sort of not considered a "3D" game is when it's considered a 2.5D game, and that's usually attributed to it specifically being locked into and played on a single dimensional plane for the most part (which mostly means it's a platformer or a Metroidvania-like experience). But, basically, 99% of games rendered with 3D polygonal graphics—and by that I mean it's showing obvious 3D visuals as opposed to simply using a 3D engine like Unity or whatever (most 2D games these days actually use a 3D engine behind the scenes)—are considered 3D games, because that's literally what they are.
inceptional (1 year ago)
What the hell are you guys talking about; Crash Bandicoot is absolutely a platformer. lol It's a 3D platformer just like Super Mario 64 is a 3D platformer, except rather than having large open levels it's a mix of both linear 3D levels where you mostly run into the screen and more traditional side-scrolling levels. But it's a 3D platformer—maybe a 3D action platformer at a stretch. It's core mechanic is literally jumping on or over things, be it the world obstacles or the enemies, with an additional spin attack that's akin to Super Mario World's spin jump or Super Mario Galaxy's spin attack or whatever. Pretty much the whole point of it was to be Sony's Mascot platformer to compete directly with the other huge 3D platformer of the time, Super Mario 64, which is obviously a 3D take on the classic 2D Mario platform games, i.e. a 3D platform game. I guess some people might call these types of games 3D action platformers now or whatever, but back then they were simply called 3D platform games.

Great t-shirt, Daemon.

All the convoluted crap with modern consoles and games—this is precisely why an extremely simple and immediate gaming experience like the one on the NES Classic Edition really resonates with me. Give me the same thing with a SNES Classic Edition, with the controller cord about three times as long and the ability to press Star and Select together to return the main menu, and I'd be there on day one—and I technically can't even play the thing on my ages old SDTV that only has stuff like Scart connections.
inceptional (1 year ago)
+MikeG82 I don't think they are "sh*t", although I would say that I think most of the NES games don't hold up nearly as well as the likes of the SNES era games (hence none of them are really on my own personal list), but maybe you do think they are sh*t. I also never said any of the games I mentioned were on the NES Classic. I'm just talking about the idea that many old and beloved games still hold up brilliantly well. But, I'd agree about many of the NES games in this particular case maybe not holding up as well as some people probably imagine they do, although I certainly wouldn't use them as a generalisation to counter my point above about things on the whole being much simpler and less convoluted back then—because them holding up in terms of visuals or gameplay wasn't my point. I was mostly talking about the simplicity and purity of gaming back in the day: No online accounts, no avatars, no DLC, no accepting digital end user agreements just to access the game, no credit card details taken, no day one patches, no overly designed and utterly convoluted menus—none of that crap. And in this respect the NES p*sses all over modern consoles. That's what I was saying.
MikeG82 (1 year ago)
+inceptional LOL so i guess mario bros 1 -3, zelda, castlevania, kid icarus etc are all shit bad taste?  no i just am not stuck in the 80's and early 90's, it's called being evolved and not being under some delusion that everything was better in the distant past when in reality technology has improved immensely none of the games you listed are on the NES classic
inceptional (1 year ago)
+MikeG82 Then I hate to say this to you but you probably picked the sh*t games and have bad taste. All the games I'd download now still hold up brilliantly today imo: Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Street Fighter II Turbo, Mother 3, Contra III: The Alien Wars, Super Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, Super Punch-Out!!, A Link to the Past, Super Mario All-Stars, Smash TV, Advance Wars, WarioWare Inc (and handheld version), Rhythm Heaven, Tetris, Pokemon (pick any handheld version), Soul Calibur 2, Wii Bowling, Skyward Sword, Kirby's Epic Yarn, etc. And, I say this having played most of them again in that last year or two. Christ, I only played Mother 3 for the first time a few months ago and it ranks as one of the greatest videogames I have ever experienced. Also, I've had more fun with those games, and continue to do so, than most of the modern games I've played. I did love the likes of Journey and Shovel Knight though, to name a couple. In fact, here's a list of some of my favourite games of all time, just for the record: http://www.inceptional.com/2016/08/18/my-top-games-of-all-time/
MikeG82 (1 year ago)
+inceptional i bought most of these games on the wii u in one day, i couldn't wait to relive my childhood after about an hour i was like what the hell was i thinking?  games are better today, take off the nostalgia goggles
inceptional (1 year ago)
+MikeG82 I absolutely 100% would if I had any money to buy the system and an HDTV to play it on. And, when the inevitable SNES Classic comes out I'd have even more fun, and likely more fun than on any modern convoluted, bloated, and in some ways even slightly restrictive and anti-consumer gaming system—I'm talking about things like corporations being able to track user accounts/details and ban people or automatically delete huge chunks of the game you paid for as they see fit and other stuff like that—by quit some ways.

You guys were talking about James Bond in video games. Coincidentally, my friend and I were talking about 007 and how the character would make a perfect Telltale game. Espionage, action and all sorts of spy shenanigans would fit perfectly in that format of game.
civenful (1 year ago)
LOL " there were times James Bond wouldn't go over a short fence, and I'm like you're an international spy??"
Danku Herba (1 year ago)
25:40 LOL, Sam, you live in such a old-school gamer bubble, man. Just because you happen to own a 30 YEAR OLD console and its games doesn't mean that a lot of other people do. It's a lot easier and cheaper to just buy an NES Classic than to hunt down an old NES and the best games for it.
maxgenius (1 year ago)
Tectoy did a lot of hardware for sega megadrive back in the 90s in Brazil, and a lot of clone megadrive consoles too, even published conversions, and ports like Duke Nukem 3D, i think they did Virtua Fighter and Tekken too, and Brazilian games both for the master system and megadrive for a long time, i don´t know what was the deal of Sega with Tectoy but they didn´t do a thing for 32x, SegaCD, Saturn or Dreamcast saddly, it would be nice to have a console that instead of having all the megadrive you can have the dreamcast, saturn and sega CD games from Tectoy but they never did anything for those systems only for master system and megadrive so they must have all the original parts but may never do a thing around saturn or dreamcast saddly...
Stunt Panda (1 year ago)
The more important question is why would games come out on Tuesday? That's just stupid. Why not come out *four days earlier* so you can play them on the weekend? Tuesday is a hold over from movie release dates and is beyond idiotic.

I used to love James Bond; Agent Under Fire. We used to use the mods in multiplayer where we used the zelda-like hookshots and lowered gravity so we would fly around like spiderman from building to building and try to knife each other in the air.

Great question about the 007 games, I was thinking the same thing. I had fond memories of playing golden eye, agent under fire and night fire. I really liked the campaigns of shooting, driving missions, and using gadgets, + split screen multiplayer. I wish they would make a new game with a solid campaign.

I don't think they ever answered the question of why Friday releases haha! Games that release on Friday are international release dates because most countries release them Friday. Except Nintendo who releases kids games on Sundays usually. Tuesdays are NA release dates to drive business early in the week rather than they all come on the weekend. That's why sometimes you have games come out in NA earlier than Europe release dates.

Nice to see you guys not politicise gamescoop, I like listening to games news without a dose of politics especially with the vitriol from both sides.
Charlie Milroy (1 year ago)
+Matt S They are allowed a political opinion, but they need to be aware that it is a risk to express it. We don't really want to hear their opinions and Daemon is probably the most professional presenter they have there at IGN. The other problem is that their opinions are often not well informed and just regurgitating what the media has spewed at us for two years.
Satt M (1 year ago)
They're game journalists, they aren't sworn to neutrality in politics. I agree it's good they didn't dwell on it in this video, though.

Genesis version of Aladdin is the absolute best, I don't think the SNES version had the right songs from the movie
Noah McCay (1 year ago)
Transfiguration (1 year ago)
You guys act surprised about the Master System games. Let me shed some light: a Game Gear is a portable Master System. They use the same architecture. All they had to do was make the proper cartridge for it, and convert it, but it was the same ROM. That's why when you play Sonic on the Game Gear, it's the same version as the Master System. So when MK1-3 came out on the Master System, you were basically playing the Game Gear version of those games, because it came out on there first. Also, there was a GG converter for the Master System, that allowed you to play GG games on it. Similar to a Super Game Boy on SNES. So basically, if you played MK3 on a GG, that's also the Master System version. They're the same.

Jumping into the comments right away, but I'm totally loving the Friday release dates. As an adult gamer who doesn't work on the weekends, I love coming home from work Friday and sinking my teeth into a new game and spend the weekend with it! When games come out on weekdays I'm less inclined to sink more hours into it due to the fact that I have to work the next day.
Shawn Redfield (1 year ago)
It should of always been fridays that games are released. I'd rather be playing a game on my time off then on a work day. Kids are also off from school so it gives them time to play. I see no point in continuing the tuesday release dates anymore.
