How can we find places that adventurers league does events at?
Che Martin (6 days ago)
This is a really nifty video for those who wants to have a crash course of AL. I show this to people who ask me intros about D&D AL I hope you make a new one with the season 8 changes :)
Isaac Beers (9 days ago)
My favorite class to run in d and d is goliath barbarian
TheAsianGuy (10 days ago)
1:43 so you can change the gender?

Nonmechanical, so go on ahead!
Stovie Dreams (12 days ago)
IMO, playing AL is like cooking a cod fish: You don’t.
WillowProxy (15 days ago)
I love D&D. I've played 3rd and 5th edition. How adventurer's league fucking sucks.
Copperman (18 days ago)
Was that a Platform Racing reference..?
Sean Hanson (21 days ago)
What are your thoughts on the season 8 rule changes?
Michael Austin (24 days ago)
Can you make an updated video for the new season 8 rules.
AlmightyK (26 days ago)
Gonna be joining my first AL game soon, so this vid helps. Mind you, by no means good to RPGs in general, just my first organised play game. (Heck, I even write my own systems)
AzraelThanatos (26 days ago)
And season 8 massively changes things. No more renown save for some specific backgrounds, you don't get treasure, you get treasure points. You don't get gold save for at level up or trading in treasure points. And XP is entirely on adventure checkpoints... Downtime doesn't seem to cost gold anymore though...
Disthron (26 days ago)
Man, I found money *Totally useless* in Adventurer's League. Because anything I wanted to buy, the DM's wouldn't let me have, even though the rules said I could. They would all just assume they knew what level everything was in and wouldn't check. It was pretty infuriating.
John Southern (1 month ago)
For me, AL lets me play LOADS of classes I'd never play, just to get some time being an asshole Pali...or see if I care about RPing a tiefling whatever. I also like the sheduled like clockwork as it fits into my schedule, unlike any weekend 'full year on one module' group I've had.
Akihito007 (1 month ago)
I did AL for about 3 months but quit because I got into a big argument with my DM after a different session when he started spouting off socialist sjw crap. It's hard to play in AL in my area when two of the people running it are leftist homosexuals and are just using Dnd to push their political agenda. Dnd used to be about having fun but now Wizards is using it to push "diversity" :/.

I'm a bit annoyed at the rule that you can't be evil. Yeah, it's best that you don't play a chaotic evil murder hobo, but what if I want to play a manipulator who uses the law to slowly give himself power and take care of his enemies legally. I want to be a lawful evil character
JMa0820 (1 month ago)
You can be lawful evil provided you take faction agent and are a Lord's Alliance or Zhentarim agent. Or just be Chaotic Neutral since most 5e players play good as neutral, neutral as evil, and evil as Hitler anyway.
TheKidnappedOne (1 month ago)
I've basically had one group ruin AL for me. First time playing DnD, only basic idea of rules and what I'm doing right? Okay so a table is set up for a handful of us to play at, most of them vets and me and another newbie, seems like things are going well, even got some very basics of character creation done until the room next door tells a few members that they HAVE to go join our table and we All MUST create a level 6 character. Of course I'm like, how the hell do I do that, I literally just figured out basic stats and got some equipment and stuff listed. Then they proceed to tell me that I'm "building my character all wrong" I need to min/max or gtfo, now remember I'm a new player at that point, I don't even know what that means, the people that were forced over to us get disgusted with us newbies, saying how we are holding things up for them and they hate dealing with this crap, all the while my friend and the other vets that originally set up the table to help us newbies learn are trying their best to help us muddle through and throwing dirty looks at the ducks that have steamrolled our group. I doubt I'll play AL again, but I still love DnD, it's just a shame that basically one guy and his trolls ruined my first attempt to play DnD or AL.

Do you think being younger (13 to 15) will discriminated against?
funnyblog100 (1 month ago)
There is a loophole with the flight ability. Storm sorcerer. A free ability that allows you to fly 10 feet away from an enemy after casting a spell that uses lightning. As a bonus action. Also once you get to level 6 every time you cast a lightning spell any creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you get hit with lightning damage. So the monsters are going to be running from you more often than you are running from them. Provided you have mage armor and shield you are effectively untouchable.

I would love to play dnd! But no teens in my area do... could you do it online? And if you can where and how?
Jack Black (1 month ago)
How do you fill/edit the fucking Logsheet?!? I can't join it because of it! Btw. I'm playing through Roll20 cuz there are no D&D compaings in my town.
Jack Black (1 month ago)
Like dafuq is session number for? How much exp i start with as a new player? Do i fill info in it after every major encounter? With how much downtime do i start? What do i write in starting # of magic items? And why are there no videos about how to fill it? Only written explanations that raise questions instead of giving answers.
Jack Black (1 month ago)
Did you know they refference this video as introduction for Adventure League new players?
Dreamer Dawn (1 month ago)
My friends and I have a house rule when it comes to Ability Scores. We use a 90pt system (min 10, max 18 not counting racial bonuses/penalties) so that at level 1 the players aren't so weak that they can be killed by a goblin and that all players have the same Ability Total. I normally go with a spread of 18, 16, 16, 14, 14, 12 but some people could even go min/max and do 18, 18, 18, 12, 12, 12 or balance with 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15 or 16, 16, 16, 14, 14, 14.

MasterVenik (2 months ago)
AL kinda sucks now with the changes to Magic Items and Treasure points, now you don't get the excitement of the unknown for what magic item you could see at the end of an adventure, now you just earn Treasure Points, and spend them between games to buy whatever magic item you want on a list, given the tier and cost
Kellen Rist (2 months ago)
"Personality traits" *ELDERLY*
That no name changing rule is the weirdest instance of "Choose a player name, warning: It cannot be changed later" all it takes is people remembering that you changed it rather than basically deleting all previous data regarding your character based on the way the game registers that you are playing and not someone else, thus meaning that if you change your name it will literally mean deleting your progress. It just doesn't make sense in a DND world
34marmarmar (2 months ago)

Can you do a DM intro video and a updated player video for AL when it comes out?
thank you
supermarioblacktiger (3 months ago)
I actually like rolling for stats. It makes things more interesting when making a character. Bad rolls go from game destroying to instead interesting character development. I rolled some low numbers, now my character isn't very wise, hey I can work with that. But maybe that is just me. I know a lot of people prefer to either use preset stats or the point system.

whats the point of playing d&d purely for combat? Id rather be playing an mmorpg lol.

Every living game (the original term for campaigns in what is now Adventure League) that I have ever been in, I have enventually reached a point where if I didn’t leave the table immediately, I would end up hurting someone. The reason why usually comes down to the fact that the organization that runs the game limits what you can do in such a way that it usually triggers my rage center. My go to example is the livingnpathfinder game where you find a crate of masterwork picks, and my first level thief could keep one because the pathfinder society (the real life organization that run the adventures) have it written down, that unless it’s during a special event at a convention where you can purchase things, any item found that gives you a stat bonus and isn’t a standard healing potion is not allowed to be kept: your character literally had to throw it away BECAUSE THE GM SAID SO.
MrKoffeeKup (3 months ago)
I don't want to be a stickler but NOT rolling for mechanical stuff is like blasphemy to me. I can understand that new players might get a little uppity that some guy gets a high money roll or upset that they have 40g to work with but I always considered that part of the fun. Life sucks. Being poor builds character.
Noah Engelmann (3 months ago)
So, as of the new Season 8 rules, what's your opinion on the changes? Good or bad? And do you plan on doing a replacement video for this one?

I went to Adventure League for the first time last week thinking that it’d be kinda boring, or mundane. Then, I blew up a pirate ship on accident and conned another pirate ship to destroy a third and become my party’s personal taxi back to port.

I started d&d in an adventurer's league campaign. It was fun but after play homebrews for a few years, I'm not sure if I can go back. Homebrews are much more fun and the stories are usually much better and the character creation is more unique, depending on the DM (or GM). I love these videos, though ❤️

dnd adventuers league doesn't exist in the UK and its pissing me off! because I swear to god it feels like its impossible to organise a dnd game over the pond I have friends but im the only one capable of being dungeon master and not to mention the fact that when we try to start a full campain it falls threw ive created two quite good worlds and their never seeing use ever...I just want to play dnd...hay does anybody know how I can play DnD with people in the UK that are reliable

I've honestly always felt that Adventure's League could benefit from being run with 3.5, with every supplement, official or otherwise being a part of the +1 book you can use.

i really hate the plus one rule, me and my friends were jumping into adventures league for the first time at a con and played these characters every day of the con till they told us we couldn't play them anymore because we had picked a race and class archetype from two different classes. i understand its simplicity sake but you have 2 books that have nothing but race options and 1 book have has all the new classes and spells thats not alot of content, plus lets not forget that they only carried over some things fro mSCAG into xanathars. plus theres small online supplements that only offer a few things like the ganasi. its pretty dumb that choosing your race is limited t othe plus 1 rule. i was told that even one of the creators thniks that AL is becoming too restrictive. our second main problem and this comes from the fact that alll AL games are about 30 min drive from us is that we cant play higher level characters when i look online most of the games are teir 2 (levels 6-10) or tier 3. why is it you have to play a level 1 character what if i get bored of my character around level 10 shouldnt i be allowed to remake him into somthing else? why do i have to get punished by dropping to level 1 again. there should be an option for people who have already levelled up characters to spend downtime or gold to rework theyre class what exacty does it hurt to do this? all in alll i enjoy AL but i find it horribly restrictive if it wasnt for my local homebrew game im in id be alot more annoyed i feel bad for people who only have time to play AL

I am a 33 year old lady, I live in the middle of nowhere, I've played D&D once for about 2 hours with people I didn't like, but I'm really hoping to actually learn how to play and have fun doing it so I'm going to take your advice and try to get involved with my local Adventurer's League games. Cross your fingers for me and thanks for sharing this info!

One thing that is left unclear in the AL rules currently are the rules for using D&D Beyond. EDIT: I also cannot find any clarification on age limits.

Lightning bolt & fireball are really overpowered. You could single handedly take on an encounter
The Nik of Time (4 months ago)
If you want to know what renown is for, look at the factions guide.

I started playing in an adventure league after this video and have had nothing but fun ^==^
BitsyTheNinja (4 months ago)
Renown is weird because it does very little but can be used to your advantage if you know what you're doing. Most secret missions have a rank requirement and that rank is determined by how much renown you have, in the beginning. The faction secret missions then help you rise higher in your faction and earn extra renown. Once you get to rank 3 you can buy magic items from your faction(one uncommon and one rare)! At rank 4 you can mentor a lower level member of your faction, which gives both of you perks in and out of adventures. Rank 5 doesn't have any real benefit other than gravitas and people lower in the faction take your words more seriously. In one case so seriously that a guy's character got assassinated IRL(perma character death) because he started an actual war between the factions and the Red Wizards who are occupying Mulmaster.
A Noob's Good Game (4 months ago)
This game is too fucking complicated
zignitz (4 months ago)
So I can play a warrior for survivability.. then switch to a wizard level 4 for power... (There will always be min-maxing in D&D ALWAYS.)
Shame that Adventurer's League is more like wargaming or classic tabletop games style, not actually RP event.
Furiora (4 months ago)
"can't have fly at first level", so fuck people who enjoy playing Aakrota, can't even clip their wings as an interesting backstory. "I was captured by bandits (possibly human supremacists) when I was just a chick. They tore off my wings and kept me as a song bird until I was saved by a group of brave adventures. That's why I became an adventuring bard, so I may ease the pain of others." Pretty cool character concept, ruined by "balance" rules. Seriously, is it too much to ask to allow a player to remove the flying mechanic in a way that fits and makes a cool character?

0:43 *triggers every single Aarakocra players in my game*. _ Do you think it's unfair to have Fly at 1st lvl? _ Yes, but I want to be a bird. _ How about you can't fly in combat til lvl 3 because you're still inexperienced? _ What's the point of being a bird if I can't fly. I don't want to be an emu. _ Ok fine. Despite everyone disagree on the fly thing. I will let you play your race with a little restriction like you have to move a around because you can't hover or you have to land after a while _ But I want to use it like Fly but at lvl 1. _ ...

I hate adventurers league. It doesn't allow for real roleplay. It's more just 'hurr durr' shenanigans forget legit story with attachment and characters that grow... just play to win and be silly!
ultris07 (5 months ago)
so Basically D&D: AL is 50/50... On one hand it's great for teaching players how to play D&D straight up and getting them up to speed on how things work, but it's extremely rigid and has no flexibility outside of time due to life and work, etc. For me this would be an extreme 70/30, I would probably most likely lean towards an experienced D&D player whom I know more than actually go to an officially sanctioned AL.

I play D&D online. My DM has this one rule, players can’t die till they reach lv 5, which considering that my groups leader lead us into a cave with a huge black dragon and stranding us on top of a snowy mountain with me at 2 HP, they ended up making me leader even thou I had only a few games under my belt. Then they up and quit leaving me on that snowy mountain by myself. So, does anyone want to help save this lonely lv human bard who’s only friend is a Owlbear she befriended.

Hey, does anyone know where Adventure Leagues are held, or any tips at least to help finding one? I've always wanted to play D&D, but I've never found anything relating to it (in real life) and I don't know anyone else who plays it.
James Studebaker (5 months ago)
Couple tips for new folk; If you could fit in its mouth, it may, at some point, try to swallow you. Daggers are useful to get out. Do not throw fireballs at your friends as a joke while camping. The bright flash, whoosh sound and smell of roasted dwarf has a tendency to attract owlbears. No one likes owlbears. Do not mess with the town guard. Be polite. For some reason, every towns guard is somehow related to every tavern owner, priest and shopkeep in town. Bite your tongue, let them poke fun, and bring back the head of something you killed and ask them if they know a good taxidermist. Indirect communication is EFFECTIVE communication. Do not leave the barbarian, rogue or monk unattended at any point in town. Bards are usually okay. If you are invited to a big fancy party wear something nice. If someone invites the barbarian who is easily startled by magic or sudden movement, send her and the monk off to 'train'. Summoning monsters can be used as a motivator for particularly grumpy barbs.

I finished my first AL campaign doing Tomb of Annihilation and it was great. They really should reward RP more in order to deviate from the classic "murder hobos", but I think it provides some grounds for preventing "super meta" characters from upsetting party power balance.
David Folsom (6 months ago)
fyi for renown you were missing the faction guide obviously. It gives you a bunch of downtime options.
