Nvidia SHIELD April 2014 KitKat Update Brings Remote PC Game Streaming!

232 ratings | 9175 views
Just over a month ago, Nvidia released a large update to the Nvidia Shield. Previously, XDA Developer TV Producer Jordan has done a SHIELD unboxing, review, and a played a couple games on the device. However, many have wanted KitKat for the device, as well as an improved GameStream feature, which allows users to play PC games on their SHIELD devices. Luckily for us, Nvidia took everyone's "constructive" criticism and listened. They released an update that addressed various requests, updated the device to KitKat Android 4.4.2, and released a beta of the Remote GameStream function. So if you want to see the many improvements that this latest update brings, check out this video. Thanks for the awesome video.  I'd love to pick one of these up.

For those who have a computer that meets all streaming criteria except the graphic card, I recommend the MSI version of the gtx 750 ti. It's $150, and does not require you to have extra power supply connectors as it gets enough power from the motherboard. Reviews for it say this does not hinder its performance, and that for the price it works well. Also, it is on the list of compatible chipsets.

Put splash top on your shield and pc and hey presto, you can wake up your pc! Smiles all round. :-)

You were able to remote stream without port forwarding your router? How's that possible?

What about 3G connection? Since my country doesn't support LTE yet, it's my only option, would I be able to play at 720p at an acceptable latency?

3g? good luck with that.

Would be interesting to see how that shield chews through bandwidth when streaming.  Many connections now are capped.

Have you tried "Kainy" on the shield? It's remote PC gaming that doesn't require a specific graphics card.
