The youth of today are really enjoying what MIT's top men are calling an electronic video game. SpaceWar, it's called. And it's proven a monumental success with youngsters the world over. Today, your hosts Mr Michael Williams Mr Gareth Evans ask, just why is it so popular?

I knew what Spacewar was already, but I had no idea it was on Steam! I gotta look up that trick and find it!
...I don't have anything against cracked games, but I'm honestly interested in Spacewar as a piece of history.
Why are you not talking about Space Wars??? I am not hear to play pirated games...
I am here to learn more about SpaceWar game play, duh...
I guess I wanted to know more about Space Wars because I loved Atari's game Defender so much and I wanted to see what the differences between the two games were???
hello guys, any Idea how I can play pirated games through the spacewar system or whatever?i managed to play friday the 13th and styx but just these 2
Is there a crack or something to make other games work at the same way too?
This is wicked, and I don't really give a shit who knows but if I was as computer savvy, no pun intended, I'd be pirating all sorts of shit off the internet especially most games these days. It's no wonder why they do it though, the amount developers lie their fuckin' greedy asses off, there's no trust or care anymore, and that's not just the game industry either.
i think you've dropped the ball on this one.
I play spacewar to test my steam controller modifications to quake2. Ive probably put about 50 hours into spacewar testing my games on steam - i don't qualify for an appId.
Imaging how much time is put in by actually game companies testing prototypes and what not.
Some pirates but this is well known by developers, which there are a lot of.
I used this spacewar thing to play with friends who can't afford to purchase game legally. But I have those games on steam that I've played using spacewar. And sometimes I use piracy like an opportunity to try new game before buying it.
You two make me laugh
" Spacewar has a higher number than infinite warfare ". " And that's without the hackers " 😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭Your like a young comical Dumbledor. you crack me up🙂 Keep up the good vids lads. ✌
Sounds like the next COD games. I can imagine it being pitched. "We will do COD in space! " every one will be like no we did that an no one liked it. "We will do COD in space in the past! Like just after ww2!" Makes no sense but make it lol.
I think a lot of people pirate games because of game developers rubbishness too. I think people are annoyed they are getting unfinished, buggy ports with no online servers with micro transactions they think why should they pay? It's not right but no one is innocent in that scenario. Play old games it's cheaper.
You seriously think a multi-billion dollar company like Valve didn't know about this until you posted this video? Wow, that's some seriously ridiculous levels of narcissism right there...fucking wankers.
if a game is more than $60, it deserves to be pirated. Oh nooo! people will lose sales! except they wont.. because if you pirate a game that means you weren't coughing up the absurd amount of cash they wanted in the first place.
Not really, if that was true all Australian steam users would be playing space wars because we pay more than the AUS equivalent of US $60 because (actual government senate inquiry conclusion) they can. $75 USD for Injustice 2. Sales lost yes, OH NO PIRATE BOYCOTT SOLVES OVERPRICING no.
I downloaded speedrunners illegally once, and my Steam profile said I was playing this game lol. I had an idea of what could that be used for, but I never thought it would be so damn big, RIP spacewar then I guess.
Good note, there is a community behind cracked games with plenty of people cracking the games and helping others play them for free with no ads. They don't make any money, they just want people to have fun.
I would honestly rather see the community help by solving actual problems in the world like censorship, company standover tactics, environmental abuse by companies hiding it behind doctored reports, workers dying from industrial fuckups that government bribes cover yup than solving the 1st world problem of gamers who can't afford to pay for a game.
We all know the scene is always evolving. If it isn't Spacewar, it will be something else or spread among more games.
Some f2p games that are available for everyone.
At least this is a good way to keep an eye on piracy, having them all gathered on 1 game.
Just for lols, i would add few achievements to the game :)
You guys read my mind sometimes. Yesterday, I was wondering if there was any 1960s games and there was four of them according to Google. Space Wars was the one I remembered. It's too bad this isn't on Steam. I'd play it.
Spacewar was the first video game, so there are probably people interested in what video gaming was like back then. It also was the precursor of eSports because they had collegiate tournaments around Spacewar.
Really impressed with your channel fellas. I've never been into vlogging or the like but you make it very engaging, your content is very interesting (loved the 'why is no one playing WD2' video especially) and aren't up your own arses. Keep up the good work.
I haven't played any pirated games directly on Steam, that's a bit of a scary prospect. XD I mean, what about all the games I've paid for? As I understand it, Steam would be allowed to shut down your account. That would be *absolutely awful*. Well, that said, if I'm gonna pirate a game it's going to be through downloading the game and using programs like Tuungle to connect to friends. I don't really need anything beyond that since I rarely play games online anyway.
MrServantRider or You can't get banned for having Spacewar. They will have to ban millions
Also you can get it legally
I heard somewhere that all Devs have Spacewar on their steam because they regonise a unknown game
the more you put restrictions on the buyers with internet drm and always online, the more it will increase piracy! its like a rubberband the more you stretch it the more it'll pull against you! Support DRM FREE games! The buyers should get a feeling of ownership after spending 60 to 80 dollars on a game!
that won't be the case look at digital devolver and CD PROJECKT RED they have made all their games DRM-FREE games and yet they make profit, and How big CD PORJECKT RED has become over the years DRM-free model doesn't seem to affect them !
Except idiots will pirate the DRM free/ good pro-consumer dev-made games and the industry will take that as a "we tried it your way, didn't work, now lets go back to heavy handed shit"
Pretty much every one who played a pirate copy of Witcher 3 should be ashamed.
Im blown away by the fact its from 1962, I honestly thought pong was the first video game and that was early seventies(which incidentally was basically a mod created on an oscilloscope) , but space war seems a lot more advanced as well as being designed from scratch rather than modded from an already existing tech that was never intended for such a purpose.
As an ex pirate king I do think that pirates are just getting more creative than them actually growing in numbers exponentially. If you really wanna crack down on piracy I recommend finding 'One Piece' before anyone else does.
