The Covenant couldn’t stop Atriox? How? If they were able to blast fucking planets to pieces like Reach. Why don’t they blast the living shit out of them if they were couldn’t handle them.

Easily my favourite cutscene in halo wars 2, and one of the best speeches in all of halo, well done, 343

When we read on before Halo games the legendary difficilty claims you fight against armies who never has known one defeat.... So, wtf with this.

I understand that Brutes have always been physically stronger than Elites, but they have always been able to go toe to toe with them, even in a hand to hand fight. Ever since 343 took over they’ve just been nerfing the Elites and it pisses me off. Like I understand how strong Atriox is, and how strong a pack of Brutes are, but come on, not a single Elite landed a blow those Brutes, and Atriox taking down a whole Spartan squad without suffering any damage? Come on now.
Matthew Brunson (26 days ago)
I don’t really think the Covenant was incapable of dealing with Atriox, they were just more focused on wiping out Humanity, as the Covenant had been overwhelming Humans since the start of the war, they probably didn’t view Atriox as that big of a threat, as the Covenants singular goal was to wipe out Humanity. If they hadn’t been preoccupied with Humanity, the Covenant could have dealt with Atriox. Still a badass character though.

It would have been cool to see the elites put up more of a fight against the brutes in the cutscene. Makes it more believable actually.

Brenden Waggoner (1 month ago)
And here yet again, we have the Elites getting completely demolished by an enemy. Whether by Spartan 4s or Brutes they just can't catch a break. It's like 343 just completely forgets that in their own lore these guys train from birth for combat, their whole society says all non combat related work is Secondary. And to see these trained warriors just sucker punched constantly is really getting old. Why are they called "Elites " again?
Brenden Waggoner (1 month ago)
Khaden Allast the sub race is just for their look in halo 4 and 5. these elites are a callback to those of halo 2 and 3. even if the brutes were put through the same training Atriox is the only survivor every time. So to see him taking on the Elites makes sense . every other brute taking on sword wielding elites with 0 visible casualties is kinda ridiculous. ambush or not. they were even in melee and only a few had hammers. It's just to hype up the brutes as badasses, I know, it's still a complete kick to the face of the already galatically established badasses of the Elites. That's why they are call that in lore.
Khaden Allast (1 month ago)
Isn't the official excuse, er... lore that these sangheili are a sub-race that did that secondary work? I vaguely remember something about that. EDIT: Never mind, forgot which video I was watching. To be fair, this tribe of Brutes is probably the same way. The Elites were also essentially ambushed.
Norma Murillo (1 month ago)
Brutes suck
Jerome 092 (1 month ago)
Atriox is definitely a better villain than the didactic and cortana, it just makes sense, he is the arbiter of the brutes, while I didn’t enjoy the cutscene of the fight showing how elites just got manhandle by brutes like if they were jackals, considering they had swords meaning they were ultra, i still like the idea of Atriox
Obi-Wan Kenobi (1 month ago)
Khaden Allast Yeah that's true. I mean, it was said that The Banished had raided Covenant resources and supplies but I think that they've stolen a lot more over the time. However, I'm not completely sure how many corvettes and ships they have. Also, I doubt that she'll let Atriox maintain control of the Ark. She'll probably just deal with them the same way she's trying to do with the humans and every other life form in the galaxy.
Khaden Allast (1 month ago)
Obi-Wan Kenobi I decided to check out his bio on Halopedia and, as expected, this origin story of his has been retconned. Or rather it might be more accurate to say that it was a highly exaggerated rambling from a terrified AI. Prior to the end of the Human-Coveant War the Banished were more like the Rebellion in Star Wars, using guerrilla warfare tactics. Strike at lightly defended installations, steal supplies, and run away before reinforcements show up. In fact according to this at the time of the Great Schism Atriox only had a single heavy corvette, it wouldn't be until after the Human-Covenant War had ended that he would be able to seize a significant number of ships and resources. Speaking of Cortana, do you think SHE would let Atriox maintain control of the Ark? I have a feeling that Atriox's forces would be nothing next to a guardian.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (1 month ago)
Khaden Allast I don't think UNSC and Swords of Sangheilios could take down The Banished that easily. Keep in mind that UNSC and humanity barely fought off against the Covenant. The Banished however easily fought off the Covenant at the height of their power. Plus, it's not like everybody would turn on The Banished. UNSC and Swords of Sangheilios will struggle with Cortana and the Guardians, the Covenant is weak and most of their forces were defeated in the Final Battle on Sangheli, and the Flood is making a huge come back. I see a LOT of fighting, betrayal, new allies, etc in Halo 6.
Khaden Allast (1 month ago)
Seizing the Ark though arguably isn't a smart move. If word got out he'd be putting himself in EVERYONE'S crosshairs. The UNSC, Swords of Sangheilios, and the Covenant would all converge on the Ark and in turn on him.
Jerome 092 (1 month ago)
i agree, he seems more of a survivor, a smart strong leader who was able to sneak out of the covenant and waited until the storm went away more than a real treat to the covenant. But with the fall of the covenant and the technology he acquired from the forerunners he can become the new prophet of truth villain, a formidable and dangerous treat to humanity , hope they pick him up for halo 6

Man I really love when they shoehorn in a character we've never heard of with a hastily written backstory in order to make them out to be a credible threat. "He was the biggest, baddest motherfucker in town even though in our thirty-year war we never even heard mention of this guy."
Khaden Allast (1 month ago)
If Atriox was more of a survivor/scavenger, then I could see it. In that sense he's not really a threat to the Covenant, just a nuisance. But his actions in HW2 have him purposefully antagonizing his foes and even putting himself in the crosshairs by seizing the Ark. If he was like that before the end of the Human-Covenant War, then the UNSC almost certainly would have heard of him before.

Isabel: "... and all you have is one old ship and half a crew to stop him?" Captain James Cutter: "I can't imagine a better way to die, or to defy your cold, heartless logic and survive it. Hell, maybe we'll even beat him. It really doesn't matter whether or not we survive: if we fight Atriox today, even if we die by his hand, tomorrow, others will pick up our weapons and our cause. Others will pick up where we left off, and put Atriox down like the Brute he is."

i hate how these constructs are so emotional now... remember serina now that construct wasn't. she was never emotionally invested or compromised because a) is construct and b) she had one job and thats to assist the captine and not to be a tedious Orange bitch. why are the constructs orange now? why do they have off putting clothes, is it like avaters for the pensents xbox... now you can customise your on board construct want a wheelchair bound, non-binary, lesbain well now you can... what is up with it like a fucking ww2 pilot and god knows what else they have planned... fucking stuipid. secondly this Isabella plays the pronoun game and proceeds to give a running commentary throughout the back story... just say "Atriox the leader of the banished arrived" insted of going "he arrived... he's their leader and his name is... ... Atriox". stop trying to pad out the time. all you are doing is wasting it. instead of telling us he's the only one that ever came back and once he did others followed him how anout you just show us. think about how much better this scene would have been without her talking.

i often wonder why atriox never recruited any humans into his forces, they mention the unsc steering clear of him but it wouldnt be that illogical for him to recruit the insurrectionists into his forces
John michael (1 month ago)
valid point
Jose Cuestas (1 month ago)
I don't blame jul for hate humanity, he have his motives. But my point is that if atriox harbor the same grudge than jul for humanity, then would be completely impossible to the banished consider recruit humans to its cause.
John michael (1 month ago)
ahh thats cool, also you can hardly judge jul for having a grudge against humanity given that they intentionally escalated the war between the covenant and the swords of sanghelios alongside torturing and performing medical experiments on Jul himself
Jose Cuestas (1 month ago)
Also, regarding your point, i read in the lore of halo about a faction of the covenant, besides jul'mdama covenant and banished, that forged an alliance with an insurrectionist faction in the colony of venezia.
Jose Cuestas (1 month ago)
Yeah, in some points, the banished and the insurrectionist are similar as both used to be affiliated to another empire and both initiated a revolution to get separated from the governments of UNSC and the covenant. Even atriox don't harbor any personal grudge against humans, unlike jul'mdama.

Hickory (3 months ago)
You know, I love this game. I really do. Atriox was a great villain. But I absolutely hated this scene, because it made the Covenant look like incompetent fools. Of course they're overconfident, that's always been one of their weaknesses, and it makes sense that their overconfidence would lead them to mistreat Atriox and his pack like that, and then perhaps fail to defeat him... but at the same time, the Covenant is the sort of military force that rolls over enemies with ease. Granted, Atriox had a large fleet at his disposal, without the technological deficiencies of the UNSC, but that by no means implies that he would be able to defy the Covenant like that. For example: His flagship, the Enduring Conviction, was apparently the largest ship he had. That's fine, we see the Shipmaster swearing allegiance to Atriox, sure. What I damn well don't understand is how, when he had only one CAS carrier, the Covenant couldn't just blow it up with one of their numerous fleets. I can accept that Atriox would be able to outsmart them when outnumbered, 'Rtas Vadum did, but the Covenant simply has a massive amount of ships at its disposal. I think this can even be further highlighted that the Enduring Conviction wasn't even recruited until 2553, after the collapse of the Covenant, so... Why didn't the Covenant destroy Atriox beforehand, when he had a smaller force? We've seen their fleets before, at Reach, Installation 05, and Locke's terminal entry on the Fleet of Particular Justice, so why shouldn't the Covenant have had another fleet of that size devoted to Atriox? To me, and I confess that I'm not the best lore source, it makes no sense how Atriox survived this long. The Covenant know what they're doing, so what gives? dunno. Also, it feels like a gut punch whenever I see those Elites die. But props to Atriox for letting the energy sword sear his hand like that – pretty badass.

I feel like atriox is misused in Halo Wars 2, I believe he should be in more cutscenes and getting in the action. For example Atriox vs Red team, he could have killed the red team right then and there. But He did not.

The portal shut down at the end of Halo 3, and I'm pretty sure Halo Wars 2 doesn't take place in 2553. So how can the portal close 5 months ago?
Gamedam Meister (4 months ago)
A couple years after Halo 3 the portal was reactivated because they discovered a signal coming from the Ark so went to investigate. After that, the UNSC sent research teams like the one Isabel was a part of to learn more about the installation. When Cortana enacted her plan, a failsafe measure in the portal activated and it closed again to protect the Ark, trapping the people there on the station without knowing what happened.

I'm just confused why Atriox and the Banished still hates Humanity. Anyone know why?
Reaper (2 months ago)
Bad blood maybe I mean Atriox lost almost everyone in his clan in the fight between him and humanity, so just because he defy the convent doesn't mean old grudges leaves his mind. If you look at halo 3 ending humanity couldn't forgive Sangheili for what they did in the war that spilled billions of human blood and planets during the war. So that could be the reason why Atriox still hates humanity for the loss of his clan.
Just waiting for him to be killed off the in very next game, because 343 lives to kill off characters with potential.

say what you want but 343s depiction of brutes is way better than the retarded bungie version
Dapper_Cat (2 months ago)
That’s one thing I’ll say 343 did better than Bungie in the games The brutes here are fucking terrifying, seeing that group completely destroy those elites honestly sent chills down my spine.
Reaper (2 months ago)
Faliz18 well atriox did make an army of his own, modify the covenant technology into the banished versions (which looks more menacing), and saw the lies they were told by the covenant. So Atriox is more dangerous brute ever known Tartaarus was chieftain of the brutes that had the covenant at his side but he was blind to see the truth of what the prophets told him.
