This place is like crack for me.
Mikhail (1 year ago)
is 100000 ¥ a good budget for shopping games in Japan or do you need more...I'm looking for super expensive games 5000 ¥ max for and expensive game
Retrogames_JP (10 months ago)
totally depends on what you want to buy. Mega Drive has become quite expensive in the past years. expect to pay 100k for Eliminate Down and the likes...
Mikhail (1 year ago)
KidShoryuken Thanks for the tip...Much appreciated.. At least now I know what I buy..Are mega drive games also very expensive.. I know some are like contra castlevania splatter house musha
KidShoryuken (1 year ago)
You can but a lot of games with 100,000 but maybe not the most expensive, some can cost as much as 40,000 for a single game.
Thor in Box (1 year ago)
3 more years before I get to live in Japan! I will go to akihabara to buy gameboy stuff in the future!! So excited to be a kid again

"Wind I love it -_-" xD
Pigs [2017] King (1 year ago)
KidShoryuken Do they sell the NES (American version) and the Gameboy Light (Japan Exclusive). If so what were the prices? I have 50000¥ to Spend x3
Pigs [2017] King (1 year ago)
Ok thanks.
KidShoryuken (1 year ago)
I've still yet to see a US NES anywhere in Japan. Gameboy Lights aren't too expensive, or at least I'm pretty sure they're not, definitely won't run you 50,000 yen.
Ar Mark (1 year ago)
if you buy a console will it be in Japanese ? and games will be in Japanese?
KidShoryuken (1 year ago)
Yes, I own 100% Japanese games and consoles right now.
richycline (1 year ago)
Super Potato was the first game store we went to in Akihabara. I was turned off by their prices (over eBay including shipping in many cases). It wasn't until we discovered Hard Off and Book Off that we were happy. Me and my buddy both got complete Super Famicoms in Shibuya (3,500 yen each) and a some great games to go with them. Much of the better stuff we found was outside of Tokyo.
aysha ali (1 year ago)
good thing I like ps1 and 2 more
maidenfan87 (1 year ago)
I was there in August last year and the shelves were bare. It looks like they've improved their stock since I was there - they'd even sold out of Famicoms and Disc Systems! Could just have been because it was peak tourist season.
KidShoryuken (1 year ago)
They've since restocked, the shelves are full again, or at least they were the last time I was there a couple of months ago.
Super Famicom UK (1 year ago)
Every time I see a vid of this place. I wish I could just stick my hand through the screen lol
Thepianist126 (1 year ago)
I really want to visited here one day!!!
nesjj778 (1 year ago)
Went there last year and spent boat loads of money. It's so cool!!
Debra Khoo (1 year ago)
Thanks for this video. Very grateful you handled your camera properly and limited the camera shakes. So much more informative and insightful without the eyeaches .I intend to have my share of retro game impulse hauls.
Debra Khoo (1 year ago)
:) The effort is very much appreciated! I was fazing out on other videos that kept shaking and panning fast. And you held your shots with generous pausing so the viewers could take in the shot. Already one step closer to pro-dom.
KidShoryuken (1 year ago)
Well, I'm not exactly what you'd call a pro but I do my best. :)

TouhouGaijin (1 year ago)
>Likes anime and video games >Wants to nuke the place where it comes from You didn't go to school, did you?
anjopag31 (2 years ago)
+Jack Daniels or, it's simply a place for people to indulge in their hobby. and where did anime come in? if you want to nuke this, go nuke a store like Micheal's too, they cater for hobbies. >_>
Jack Daniels (2 years ago)
this place is like a fucking tumor on the earth I like to watch anime and play video games and what not but these freaks take that shit way to fucking far its sickening

Nice! Have to go there someday. What is the other music used?(1:06) Some NES game?
VarroDominus (2 years ago)
+KidShoryuken Thanks!
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+VarroDominus It's from one of the Goemon games, the second one I think.
Linux Beast Games 2 (2 years ago)
Loving the retro game shop videos, if only we had good shops like in Japan in England, I wold be very happy man. Thank's for this amazing video KidShoryuken
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Gun Beast Games No problem, it was my pleasure. :)

Ryan Smith (2 years ago)
great store this, arcade at the top you can smoke in! lots of stuff, although I didnt see anything neo geo related.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Ryan Smith Sadly true, this place's Neo Geo section used to be full to overflowing but I guess it's been picked clean in recent years.
Zac (2 years ago)
I've spent so much money at this store! I got my super famicom there Only downside is they a few of the workers got annoyed at me because I asked too many questions. Mind you I can speak a fair bit of Japanese so the language barrier wasn't a problem still an awesome store nonetheless!
Zac (2 years ago)
+KidShoryuken It's a great store aha. You're so right, I mean like to be able to work there makes me so envious to be surrounded by things I love and have a passion for everyday would be amazing! So I really have no idea why they would be getting annoyed haha
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+ZakariAMV I must admit, I've spent a small fortune here myself. As for employees getting annoyed, if you work in the most awesome work environment in the world then I have every right to annoy you!
FupaGravy (2 years ago)
Such an amazing place! Great video, liked and subbed
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+FupaGravy Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the vid.
I love all of your Japan Retro game hunting videos, especially your Hard Off videos. Im travelling to Japan for the first time in March and would love to go game hunting but I don't speak/read much Japanese at all. Do many games over there come in English or with English subtitles?
Yeah figured as much but just wanted to check. thanks for clarifying mate!
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+TheWhisperedNothingsASMR You're not going to find many games that have English options here. If you're a retro gamer then I'd suggest that you look for games that don't require much reading or Japanese comprehension like shooters, fighters etc.
That first floor is decimated. Second floor I could totally dig into for along time. Great video
filthy casuals lol
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Dommercoolstuff Yeah man, damn tourists.
Richard Körner (2 years ago)
Even though I'm more of a figure type of guy, I just loved this! Your videos are making me fall in love with Japan!
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Richard Körner No harm in that, Japan is worthy of your love!
electricadventures (2 years ago)
This is a store I have definitely been to, but it was at least ten years ago now. Around the time the PSP was launched in Japan (as I brought one back for my brother in law - damn just checked that was 11 years ago!). I actually did not see any MSX items back then, but I had very little time, so probably did not look properly. Did play on the arcade machines for a bit. I would have been blind to Famicom, Super Famicom etc, as I had no Japanese systems (other than my MSX machines) back then.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+electricadventures Well, maybe it's time you paid another visit, eh?
Marisa (2 years ago)
That huge Sexy Beach Premium Resort poster at the beginning, I really didn't expect that. XD It's a porn game, for those of you who didn't know. Like, with sex and everything. Also, yay for a new game shop video! :)
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+imoutodesu Not uncommon to see sexually explicit materials out in the open, just how I like it. :)
VideoGameVictims (2 years ago)
Damn I want one of those cocktail cabinets :(
The Positiver (2 years ago)
When I was in Japan this one of the few video games stored I got to go there and I was there for an hour considering the fact that where I live there are no dedicated stores for classic games. Of course after seeing a few more videos from you Kid I gotta say I want to go to those other stores and I was not aware of the price in the store as far as comparison goes.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+linkuofcourage1 Well that's why I'm here, to educate the masses. Definitely next time you're in Tokyo give me a holler, I'll show you the ropes.
Power Up Jay (2 years ago)
What a cool place! I'd love to get one of those upright arcade cabinets for my house.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+PowerUpJay You and me both man.
there's a super potato here in nagoya as well. TBH, it's way too small to really have much, and it gets constantly raided so there aren't a whole lot of good buys there.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+pilotamurorei Just look at some of the people peddling their wares in Facebook gaming groups, plenty of price gouging going on there.
One of my friends goes around to different Hard offs and usually finds some decent stuff but even he says SP is the worst place to look for stuff down here. I figured resellers would exist, first time I've got evidence of it though. They must jack up the prices like crazy.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+pilotamurorei That's unfortunate, can't stand the fact that we have to contend with resellers and scalpers.
Pixel Pixie (2 years ago)
looks amazing!!!
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Pixel Pixie Indeed it is!
Nexus Verbal (2 years ago)
Yeah, it seemed just as bad when I dropped in during July. The Super Potato in Ikebukuro had pretty healthy stock, even though it was smaller overall. I do wonder how the one in Osaka's doing, though.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Nexus Verbal I wish I could say, I haven't been there yet but it won't be long before I take a trip to Osaka, I'll definitely be stopping by.
Lawrence Evans (2 years ago)
I love these videos! Keep up the great work. You would make a great guide as you mentioned that you've help tourists.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Lawrence Evans It did, we raised $550 for the Children's Miracle Network.
Lawrence Evans (2 years ago)
+KidShoryuken Cool! Hope it went well.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Lawrence Evans Actually I joined a friend of mine on his Twitch channel for that one, it was an interesting experience to say the least.
Lawrence Evans (2 years ago)
+KidShoryuken Alright I couldn't find your fund raiser but next time.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Lawrence Evans I have a KidShoryuken Twitch account but I never broadcast there, I just drop in to watch friends from time to time.
Gaming Tidbits (2 years ago)
I one day want to go there just to walk in all the great game stores there
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Gaming Tidbits Go for it, it's never more than a plane ticket away.
youtubasoarus (2 years ago)
Intro music? Sounds like a beautiful piece.
Leebruce (8 months ago)
The music is more likely from 8 bit console generation.
youtubasoarus (2 years ago)
+KidShoryuken Thanks for the info. :) I'll try to find it.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+youtubasoarus It's from an MSX shooter called Space Manbow, great soundtrack on that one.
BioPhoenix (2 years ago)
funny how i heard about this place in the game akiba's strip on PS3. yeah they have a ton of adds in that game and its pretty interesting even the red building with the sega logo.
BioPhoenix (2 years ago)
that is pretty cool to note. well whenever i do my goal to travel random places of the world i would love to visit here
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+BioPhoenix Yeah, that's Club Sega, kind of a landmark in Akiba, seven stories of nothing but games.
BioPhoenix (2 years ago)
ok that is cool how they did get most of it accurate. i was not sure because i never been there but i know someone else had a picture in front of the sega building
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+BioPhoenix Yeah, I've played a bit of Akiba's Trip and it's actually really accurate from what I saw aside from some shops having their names changed, Mister Donut is called Sister Donut in the game for example.
kenshiroonline (2 years ago)
If the freaking Plane Ticket would not cost me a fortune i´d so be there:(but i´ll make it,no worries there^^1000 bucks for Super Guns, ouch! The most i ever paid for a Game was 120 euros so about 140 dollars for Growlanser 2-3 Limited Edition, was worth it^-^ Great video as always,Take Care Jim!
kenshiroonline (2 years ago)
Good idea,i´ll check in to that! Thanks^^
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+kenshiroonline Thanks! Just do like my buddy Karcamo and start a Japan fund.
spritesnbytes (2 years ago)
Words cannot describe the joy in seeing allot of import gaming! IF I ever get the opportunity to come to Japan, I know for certain that places like this I will end up in. It is however unfortunate that the shelves for the retro games is pretty much like a baron wasteland, but thankfully I am more a Sony fan and will be more than excited to peruse the PS1 and up titles!
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+spritesnbytes Trust me, if and when you come for a visit I'll be showing you to all of the hot spots.
HappyConsoleGamer (2 years ago)

We do love potatoes here in Idaho.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+TrumanTalksTreasure As any decent people would. :)
gio_duude (2 years ago)
I know super potato is really expensive but when I went a couple weeks ago I was able to find a boxed hori multi arcade stick for $35! Friends was definitely my favorite store followed close by the mandrake. Awesome vid man
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Gio Duude Thanks! Hope you enjoyed your time in Japan, be sure to hit me up if you come again. :)
cojonesdeloro (2 years ago)
Awesome store dude, all the games and systems you would ever need plus a candy cab area, best store in JP?
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+cojonesdeloro Well, I wouldn't call it the best store price wise, it's great as far as atmosphere and selection(usually) goes but for better deals it's to go to Friends or Beeps.
FullmetalSonic260 (2 years ago)
Big Boss not Solid Snake. Great video anyway lol.
FullmetalSonic260 (2 years ago)
No problem :D
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+FullmetalSonic260 Thanks!
xTHETRAINx (2 years ago)
It looks you went to super potato at an optimal time... they appear to have a lot of stock in the video compared to all the times I went in there... I was looking for various controllers at the time
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+xTHETRAINx You should have seen it 4 or 5 years ago, the shelves were overflowing they were so packed.
xTHETRAINx (2 years ago)
Friends is the best store in that entire area
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+xTHETRAINx I'm with you on that one, their prices are great and the old folks that run it are cool.
Cool place
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+HeroStatueCollector Lou You got that right Lou.
TheCompletionist (2 years ago)
I would of never thought a complete copy of Wild Guns in Japan would be worth a thousand bucks but in all honesty, its like I said in your last video what is deemed a certain price in one region could be the complete opposite in another region. These are always some of my favorite videos. Jim, out of curiosity, my wife and I will eventually visit japan but we're considering a trip like this a bucket list trip and we probably won't do this trip until we're in our 40's at the earliest. I was just wondering even though I don't collect import games, my wife and I still like to collect import gaming items such as video game art books, video game soundtracks, and in very strict cases video game statues/figures. From all the stores you've visited what are some of the best stores that specialize in those kind of items.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+TheCompletionist Hit me up whenever you guys make it out here. :) For soundtracks definitely go to Friends in Akiba, they've got a massive selection of game music. There are plenty of dedicated figure shops in Akiba, Nakano and elsewhere and you can always find game related figures in them and for art books and such I'd recommend going to Nakano Broadway, they not only have tons of books for sale but also posters and original animation cells used in the production of anime, very cool indeed.
WhatsOnMyShelf (2 years ago)
6:34 Twinbee figure (plush?). Again! 6:52 Even though USA finally gets VG merch, there's so many oddities that will never reach our shores.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+WhatsOnMyShelf That's when it pays to have friends in Japan. :)
RPTG RetroPTgameR (2 years ago)
It must be amazing to walk on those streets and hunt video games. Also the cuties in the street are well dressed. Thanks for another vídeo man. Love these.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+RPTG RetroPTgameR It is indeed awesome, especially so for us retro gamer/collector types. I highly recommend paying a visit at least once in your life, and yes, the ladies are always dressed to impress out here. :) Thanks for watching!
CollectingRetro (2 years ago)
I'm going to hire you to be my retro game shop tour guide when I visit Japan ;) The MSX is pretty cool. I ended up with some MSX games mixed in Famicom lots, so I figured I better find a system to play them on! I found a Sony MSX2 for a good price and have been picking of some games here and there when they pop up.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+CollectingRetro No need for that, I gladly volunteer. :) I'd probably be in town anyway.
TG5455 (2 years ago)
A golf/RPG game? That's a brain twister but the cover art looks nice.

TG5455 (2 years ago)
Look at them lovely girls. :D
TG5455 (2 years ago)
+KidShoryuken They look good in their maid outfits.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+TG5455 I certainly do, as often as possible.
Power Metal Gamer (2 years ago)
That was a long one. I'm super jealous of the prices in Japan compared to here in Europe. Also, a shop called Super Potato? hahahaha! Sounds like it could be run by an Irishman. :P Great video. Keep up the excellent work! :)
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Power Metal Gamer The only way it could be any better is if it were called Super Whiskey. :) Thanks as always dude.
RetroMicky82 (2 years ago)
it is a shame but thats popularity for you . i gotta get me to there for ps1 . i.m after road avenger and time gal on ps1
WhatsOnMyShelf (2 years ago)
+TimeTeam1982 The popularity is definitely justified. That shop has some atmosphere.
RetroMicky82 (2 years ago)
cool
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+TimeTeam1982 Yes indeed, I'd call it over exposure for SP and under exposure for everywhere else. That PS1 section is still really stacked, I'm sure you'd be able to find whatever you're looking for.
Johnny Suarez (2 years ago)
Hi Jim aka My favorite Youtuber
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Johnny Suarez Hello Johnny, thank you for saying so!
MrDmoney156 (2 years ago)
You could blame other YouTubers for telling viewers to go down to Super Potato and basically tell 'em to clear the decks when visiting Tokyo lol Honestly i wasn't aware if the sparse selection of Retro games were getting lower.
MrDmoney156 (2 years ago)
+KidShoryuken it's at 10:33 around the right side from the TV
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+MrDmoney156 Where exactly did you see that? I must've missed it. Also, yes, YouTube is a big reason why SP has been getting cleaned out over the past year or two.
MrDmoney156 (2 years ago)
P.S WOAH did i just see Thrill Kill up there??! What the flipping heck is it doing here? and how's is people are able to play it since that requires a modded PS1 console for it to work since it's an unreleased game?
I Play My Games (2 years ago)
You are right Jim maybe if I ever go to Japan I will just window shop here at super potato and actually buy games at other shops there in Akihabara. Or I Will just shop at hard off book off or other less known shops.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+GoonieGamer That's definitely for the best, hit SP last and give other places a shot first, especially Hard Off which has always been a wellspring of games for me and a lot of other collectors here.
Ricardo Biswalt (2 years ago)

KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Ricardo Biswalt But no less appreciated. Thanks for watching!
AlbinoNinja96 (2 years ago)
I tried to buy a Famicom game there that wasn't in shrink wrap. I asked how much it was and said it was with the other games. The guy just told me it was 'broken' and I couldn't buy it. I didn't buy anything there because it was so, so pricey. But at least I finally got to try a Virtual Boy for the first I guess. Hahaha
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+AlbinoNinja96 Yeah, it's usually best to think of SP as a museum or something, just a place to look at games and soak up the atmosphere before you head to Hard Off to find some deals.
Klonoahedgehog (2 years ago)
This is a place i want to visit someday.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Klonoahedgehog It's always just a plane ticket away, go for it! :)
I was just in Akihabara last week, and yeah, Super Potato was looking pretty rough. Some of those games in your video (which I assume you recorded a while ago) were still there. The MD section was a lot less stocked than in this video, though, as were most of the other retro sections. And I know most of the prices there are pretty outrageous, but that's Akihabara in general. I didn't buy anything, but that had mostly to do with me only having about 1500 yen when I went. I'll be going to Tokyo again this Friday--you going to be back in Japan by then? I was thinking of swinging by Akihabara again after some work related stuff. It'll be after pay day, too, so I'll have more than 1500 yen with me! XP
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Son of a bitch, I knew it was you! Even when it was the bears I knew it was you!
Pshh...Well now, I guess I'll just have to keep sending my envelopes of money to immigration to keep you out of the country a littler longer. I'm not an Akiba person, but I would like to hit up Friends next time I'm there.  Even back in 2006 when I was studying in Tokyo, I didn't buy much of anything at Super Potato...maybe nothing at all.  It's always been pricey.  Book-Off and mom & pops shops FTW.
KidShoryuken (2 years ago)
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Unfortunately I won't be back for 2-3 weeks, I think somebody at immigration is sitting on their hands. The only stuff I actually bought on this day was some Kirby stuff for my old lady, might as well look on e-bay if you're gonna shop at SP.
